For Worker error 1101, collect the complete message and invocation details. An exception needs its failing operation traced; a message saying the script will never generate a response needs its response path examined.
WordPress may be the destination while the failure occurs in edge code. Compare the same input and route rather than resetting unrelated PHP plugins.

Separate an exception from a missing response path
| Message or evidence | Inspect | Next test |
|---|---|---|
| Exception name and stack | Operation and deployed source | Original input and successful comparison |
| Unexpected response format | Dependency status and data validation | Controlled dependency failure |
| Missing value | Required versus optional input | Defined failure behavior |
| Script will never generate a response | Unresolved work and response return | Each relevant completion path |
| Started after deployment | Version and binding changes | Affected branch with known configuration |
Locate the Worker and the failed invocation
Compare the affected hostname and path with the Worker configuration. Then use the error time and request context to find the relevant log entry. Cloudflare’s Worker tools can expose uncaught exceptions and invocation outcomes.
If a developer or host manages that configuration, send them the exact URL and a concise reproduction. A homepage that works may take a different route through the code from the page or integration that fails.
Keep any request identifier shown on the error page. It can help connect the browser result with the account’s records, especially when several requests occurred near the same time.
Read the exception, not just the error page
Check the exact wording. Cloudflare also documents 1101 when the script never produces a response. If that is the message, review awaited work that cannot settle and paths that never return the required response. Do not replace that evidence with a guessed JSON parsing error.
The exception name, message and stack information can identify a more precise operation than the public error number. A missing property, a parsing failure and an explicitly thrown error require different corrections.
For example, code that expects a JSON response may receive an HTML error page from a dependency. Attempting to parse it as JSON can throw. The useful correction includes checking the response and handling the unexpected result, rather than assuming the dependency always returns the expected format.
This is an illustration of a failure path, not an explanation of every 1101 result. The actual exception should guide the investigation. Replacing it with a guessed diagnosis can lead to changes unrelated to the failed operation.
Compare the input with the code’s assumptions
A Worker may behave correctly for a simple test while failing when a header is absent, a path differs or a response has an unexpected shape. Compare the failing request with one that works and identify the assumptions made by the relevant branch.
Inputs should be validated before they are used in a way that depends on their type or presence. The developer also needs a defined response when a required value is missing. An arbitrary default may remove the exception while producing an incorrect result.
Asynchronous failures deserve attention too. If an operation returns a rejected promise, the code needs appropriate handling around the awaited work or in the promise chain. A catch block around unrelated code will not necessarily handle that failure.
Make the failure behavior fit the feature
An optional page enhancement may be able to return an unmodified response when processing fails. A routing or access requirement may need a controlled failure instead. The developer should choose that behavior deliberately.
Suppressing every exception can hide a continuing problem. Keep enough diagnostic information to explain what failed, while avoiding private form contents, credentials and authentication tokens in logs or public reports.
If the problem began after a deployment, compare the change with the failed code path. A previously tested version may help establish the difference, but any rollback should preserve required behavior and be verified on the affected route.
Keep edge code separate from WordPress recovery
A WordPress backup or theme change does not automatically alter a deployed Worker. If the exception occurs before the origin is contacted, the application’s logs may not show the corresponding page request.
The host can help establish whether WordPress is healthy through its supported diagnostic method, but that check should complement the Worker investigation. It should not replace the exception details with a broad plugin reset.
More than one problem can exist in the same connection. If correcting the Worker reveals a PHP or HTTPS error afterward, investigate that new symptom separately rather than assuming the first correction failed.
Verify the original failure path
- Reproduce the original input in a suitable test environment.
- Check the matching invocation evidence.
- Test normal success and expected missing-input or dependency failure.
- Confirm each path produces the intended response.
- Verify required access and routing behavior remains present.
Repeat the request that produced the exception and check the relevant logs after the correction. Then test a normal request and an expected failure from a dependency or missing input, where those cases belong to the feature’s design.
Confirm the intended response as well as the absence of 1101. A page that opens with an omitted access check or incorrect transformation is not a complete repair.
Cloudflare defines 1101 in its Workers errors guide. Its Workers Logs guide explains the available error information, while MDN’s JSON.parse reference illustrates one common type of parsing exception.
Keep a reproducible exception record
Record the Worker version, route, minimal input and confirmed failing operation without private values. Retest after the correction and keep its outcome. If a separate PHP or TLS symptom appears afterward, investigate that next stage on its own evidence.
